5 awesome things to do with kids in the Hills District
There’s nothing worse than being stuck at home on a beautiful day with bored kids because you can’t think of anything to do. It doesn’t happen too often, but if you find yourself one sunny day stuck for ideas and you don’t want to travel all the way to the city, or it’s school holidays and you’ve exhausted the beach and pretty much done everything you can think of with the kids. Here’s some simple ideas for right here in the hills district for you and the kids that are heaps of fun.
1. Dural Putt, Putt
Nestled in a beautiful bush setting Dural Putt, Putt has everything going for it. Besides the super fun courses that will keep the family occupied for hours… there’s also a great little café to get some lunch when you need to take a break after all those holes in one.
If you’re planning a kids party they also offer the following at only $20 a head.
- 2 hours of party time.
- 1 x hotdog
- 1 x drink – juice or soft drink
- 1 x gelato
- 1 x 12 month pass for birthday child
- 1 x 18 hole admission for each party guest
- Party invitations
- Party supervisor
N.B. minimum 8 kids.
Chicken nuggets and chips or party pies and sausage rolls are available instead of the hotdog at an additional $2 per child.

2. Feed the fish
Another thing you can do, if you’re not wanting to spend too much time out is head down to the local pond and feed the fish. There’s a great little pond in The Outlook Reserve in Beaumont Hills you can try, but if you have one closer to you then grab your bread scraps and see if you have any fish swimming around in it. Just make sure you’re not throwing in loafs of the stuff. There’s a point when it just starts to become littering, but 5-6 slices should be plenty for a nice walk.
3. Golden Ridge Animal Farm
Now if you’re wanting an interactive farm animal experience than Golden Ridge Animal Farm is great! There’s heaps for the kids to do there.
Activities include:
- Holding baby farm animals
- Meet, greet and feed the larger animals
- Milk the cows
- Bottle feed the baby lambs, and kids (as in goat kids)
And much more. If you have a big family then it can start to get a bit expensive at $15 a head, and then $5 per bucket of feed, but it is very fun for the kids, so it’s worth it if they wouldn’t normally have access to farm activities. You can see more details of what they have on offer at this link.

It has everything you’d expect in an awesome park, plus it has a big maze for the kids to find their way through, and when they get bored of that they can head over to the flying fox.
